How we protect you and your banking

We take steps to make sure that you, your computer, and mobile device are safe when visiting our website, using Internet Banking, and our BNZ app.

Active monitoring

We monitor, audit, and inspect our security systems, equipment, and online banking transactions for any suspicious activity. We also continually monitor any scams that our customers have been targeted with and provide assistance.

Security features that keep you safer

Scammers want you to rush, because that’s when mistakes can happen. So we’ve designed features that add friction in key moments, to help you pause before making a payment. We also use the latest technology and security features to keep you and your money safer online. These include two-step authentication, Confirmation of Payee, and online banking lock.

How we keep your information secure

Secure website

Our website has security certificates (issued by Entrust) which prove to you that our site is genuine and encrypted.

Encryption

Encryption scrambles information while it travels over the internet or mobile phone networks, while you use our services. This keeps your information safe.

Voice identification

We have extra protection when you speak with our Contact Centre. This can be set up in branch or over the phone and allows us to securely identify you.

Behavioural biometrics

When you bank online, we collect information on how you interact with your device (behavioural biometrics). We also collect details about your device. This helps us prevent fraud by making sure it’s you using the BNZ app or Internet Banking.

Checking payments go to the right place

Confirmation of Payee can help you avoid sending money to the wrong place. Banks that participate share information through a secure system. When using the BNZ app or Internet Banking to make a payment, the service checks if the account owner name and account number match information held about the account. This can give you more confidence when making payments.
