How to activate your travel insurance

If you’re a BNZ Platinum cardholder (including joint and additional cardholders), you can activate your travel insurance cover by simply being a Platinum card holder at the time you make a payment towards any of your pre-paid travel costs such as pre-paid accommodation, pre-paid tours, or return overseas travel tickets.

That’s all. You don’t need to call us, and there’s no lengthy form to fill in.  

Make sure you keep any receipts, bank statements, emails or other proof that you’ve activated your travel insurance. If you make a claim, we’ll need to see these original documents.

Cover for spouses or children

Platinum cardholder spouse and/or dependent children accompanying you on your journey, will also be covered. For full details, read your policy document. 

Cover for pre-existing medical conditions

Pre-existing conditions aren’t covered under your policy. Call us on 0800 269 872 for a quote for additional cover, trip extensions, or specific items.

COVID-19 and other travel advisories 

You can have limited cover for COVID-19 if you’re travelling within a travel bubble approved by the New Zealand government. If you’re travelling outside of a travel bubble, you’ll have no cover for COVID-19^.

You may still claim for events that are included in your policy and unrelated to COVID-19, for example:

  • if you have luggage stolen on holiday
  • if you suffer an accident or injury on holiday
  • if you miss a flight connection due to delays.
