Travel insurance changes

We’ve worked with AIG, our travel insurance provider to make changes to the travel insurance BNZ Advantage credit cardholders receive as a card benefit. Some cover that used to be automatic is now optional and is available to add-on. This includes Cruise Cover^ and Snow Sports Cover. These changes could impact cover for your overseas travel, particularly if any part of your trip includes a cruise of 2 or more nights. If you have travel booked or planned that departs New Zealand on or after 3 February 2026, check your travel insurance policy. Add on any additional cover before departure at bnztravel.co.nz.

Making a claim

It’s important to keep receipts, bank statements, emails or other proof of your eligibility for travel insurance. If you make a claim, we’ll need to see these original documents.

The AIG claims team is available 24/7 online. If you make a claim through the online claims portal, the team will:

  • acknowledge your claim by email within 24 hours of receiving your electronic claim
  • assign a Claims Examiner to assess your claim
  • pay a covered claim within ten working days of receiving your claims form and supporting documentation
  • ensure a decision maker is available to respond on an ‘as needed’ basis.
