Setting up Apple Pay
To set up Apple Pay you’ll need to have a passcode, Touch ID, or Face ID enabled on your compatible device. You’ll also need to be connected to the internet and have the latest version of the BNZ app. You can update or download the app from the App store.
If you have an Android device you can set up Google Pay.
When you can set up Apple Pay
- Flexi Debit Visa cards: add your card before it arrives.
- Credit cards: wait until your physical card has arrived and is activated.
iPhone
Using the BNZ app
Follow the steps below or use the downloadable guide.
- Log in to the BNZ app.
- Tap the Menu icon, then tap Cards.
- Select the card you’d like to add and ensure that all card security options are enabled. Then tap Add to Apple Wallet.
- Tap Continue.
- On the Add card to Apple Pay screen, confirm the details then tap Continue.
- Read the terms and conditions, then tap Agree.
Note:
- If you have other Apple devices you’ll be given the option to add your card to them.
- If you have more than one card you’ll be given the option to set it as the default card.

Using the Wallet app
If you prefer, you can set up Apple Pay through the Wallet app on your iPhone.
You’ll be asked to verify your card with the BNZ app. If you don’t have the BNZ app, you can call us on 0800 275 269, and say “Apple Pay”.

Apple Watch
- Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
- Go to the My Watch tab.
- Scroll down and tap Wallet & Apple Pay.
- Follow the steps to add a card. If a card is already on your iPhone, tap Add next to the card. To add a new card, tap Add Credit or Debit Card. If you’re asked to add the card that you use with iTunes, just enter its security code. Tap Next.
- Have your physical card ready and scan the card using your iPhone camera, or enter the card details manually.
- Read the terms and conditions, then tap Agree.
- Complete the card verification process when prompted.
- Once we’ve verified your card, tap Confirm to add your card to Apple Pay.
iPad
Using the BNZ app
- Log in to the BNZ app.
- Tap the Menu icon, then tap Cards.
- Select the card you’d like to add and ensure that all card security options are enabled. Then tap Add to Apple Wallet.
- Tap Continue.
- On the Add card to Apple Pay screen, confirm the details then tap Continue.
- Read the terms and conditions, then tap Agree.
Using the Wallet app
- Open Settings.
- Scroll down and tap Wallet & Apple Pay.
- Tap Card, then tap Add debit or credit card.
- Follow the steps to add a new card. If you’re asked to add the card that you use with iTunes, just enter its security code.
- Read the terms and conditions, then tap Agree.
- Verify your card by tapping BNZ App then Continue.
- Tap Verify to open the BNZ app, then verify your card by tapping Confirm. If you don’t have the BNZ App, you can call us instead on 0800 275 269, and say “Apple Pay”.
- Once we’ve verified your card, tap Confirm to add your card to Apple Pay.
MacBook Pro with Touch ID
- Open System Preferences.
- Select Wallet & Apple Pay.
- Select Add Card or the plus (+) icon.
- Follow the steps to add a new card. If you’re asked to add the card that you use with iTunes, just enter its security code.
- Tap Next. We’ll verify your information.
- Once we’ve verified your card, tap Confirm to add your card to Apple Pay.
Please note: If you purchase a new iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad or MacBook, you must add your cards to Apple Pay again. Remember that you must remove any BNZ cards from your Apple device, before selling or giving it to someone else.
