Changes to BNZ Advantage credit cards and the BNZ Rewards programme

Effective from 3 February 2026

  • These changes will apply to all BNZ Advantage credit card agreements entered into on or after 3 February 2026.
  • For BNZ Advantage credit card agreements entered before 3 February 2026, all changes will come into effect on 3 February, except for the reduction in interest-free days for BNZ Advantage Visa Platinum and BNZ Advantage Visa Classic (as described below).
  • The reduction in interest-free days will take effect on statement periods beginning on or after 3 February 2026. For example, if the opening date of your next statement is 5 February 2026, the update will apply from 5 February 2026.

BNZ Advantage Visa Platinum

  • Reduced number of interest-free days(from up to 55 days to up to 44 days) on purchases.^
  • More BNZ Points will be needed to redeem rewards. The exact number will vary across the different reward types. To find out more, read our FAQs.
  • Travel insurance excess for each and every accepted claim will increase from $200 to $300.
  • Domestic Rental Vehicle Collision Damage and Theft Excess Cover won’t be provided.
  • Snow Sports will no longer be included, but will be available to purchase prior to departure from 3 December 2025 as an optional add-on if required.**
  • Cruise Cover will no longer be included, but will be available to be purchased prior to departure from 3 December 2025 as an optional add-on if required.** You will not be covered for any part of your trip if your itinerary includes a multi-night cruise and you do not purchase the Cruise Cover add-on.

BNZ Advantage Visa Classic

* BNZ Points are earned on eligible purchases, which exclude cash advances, balance transfers, interest charges, bank fees, gambling, betting or lottery transactions, unauthorised transactions for which you are not liable, transactions with securities brokers or dealers, transactions for cryptocurrency and contracts for difference.

** You can check your cover, make changes to your cover and purchase any required optional cover prior to your departure date at bnztravel.co.nz or by calling 0800 269 872. There are cover restrictions and exclusions to the automatic cover available, if you will be aged 75 years or above on your date of departure from NZ. However, you will be able to buy some of these restricted and excluded covers by purchasing Mature Traveller Medical Cover.

BNZ Advantage Visa Platinum and Business card insurances are provided by AIG. BNZ Advantage Visa Platinum and BNZ Advantage Visa Business card insurances (‘Insurance’) is subject to the terms, conditions, exclusions (for example age limitations etc.), eligibility criteria, and activation requirements contained in the policy documents. You should read the policy documents to make sure that the Insurance meets your needs. The Insurance is provided to Advantage Visa Platinum and Business cardholders by AIG Insurance New Zealand Limited (‘Insurer’) under an agreement with BNZ. BNZ does not underwrite the Insurance, is not an agent of the Insurer, and does not guarantee the obligations of the Insurer. Premiums are payable for policy extensions such as pre-existing cover, duration extension and specified items. Visit the BNZ travel website to check your cover eligibility.

Changes to our Master Privacy Policy

Effective from 12 November 2025 

We’re making changes to our Master Privacy Policy to:

  • improve transparency
  • reflect changes in our business 
  • provide clearer information about what you can expect when using our services. 

The changes include:

  • an update to the information we collect and use for a new security feature in Internet Banking and the BNZ app
  • more detail about how long we keep different types of data 
  • new categories of information we may generate during interactions, such as call summaries
  • an update to how and why we share information to help protect against fraud and scams 
  • different ways to get in touch with us.

Changes to BNZ Merchant Agreement Master terms and conditions correction

Effective from 28 October 2025 

We’re making changes to our BNZ Merchant Agreement Master terms and conditions. We included the wrong effective date in the public notice published on 26 September 2025. The actual effective date is 28 October 2025. 

The changes include:

  • Providing more detail on the data security standards and our requirements in clauses 3.7(a) and 3.7(b).
  • Removing reference to cheques in clause 4.2(f) and faxes in clause 23.
  • Updating the identification requirements for remote transactions in clause 4.4(b).
  • Updating the website requirements in clause 4.14, new clause 4.15 and clause 4.16.
  • Amending clause 5.7(b) to require the use of 3D Secure for e-commerce websites.
  • Deleting clause 10.12.
  • Clarifying our rights in clause 16.6 where a payment or other obligation has not been performed. 
  • Amending the way a merchant can terminate their agreement with us in clause 19.2.
  • Amending clause 28 to include when we can undertake credit checks and obtain references and to explain how we manage personal information.
  • Correcting minor typographical errors and making other clarifying or formatting changes.

Changes to our Client Fund Service terms and conditions

Effective from 30 September 2025

We currently offer term deposits and call accounts via Client Fund Service (CFS), our online deposit management platform.

From 30 September 2025: 

  • we’ll temporarily stop offering CFS term deposits
  • we’re updating our terms to reflect this change, along with other minor amendments.

This only affects you if you create and maintain term deposits using CFS. Our regular term deposits aren’t affected.

Changes to our Personal fees guide

Effective from 31 July 2025

We’re removing NetGuard cards as a form of two-step authentication within Internet Banking. To reflect this, we’re making changes to our Personal account, service, and facility fees guide. 

The changes include removing the details for NetGuard cards from the: 

  • ‘Internet Banking’ table on page 4 
  • list of specific terms we explain on page 10.

Changes to our Internet Banking terms and conditions 

Effective from 31 July 2025

On 31 July 2025, we’re removing NetGuard cards as a form of two-step authentication within Internet Banking. From this date, you won’t be able to use a NetGuard card to authenticate when undertaking certain actions in Internet Banking. Instead, you’ll need to use the BNZ app to authenticate.

To reflect the removal of NetGuard cards, we’re making changes to our Internet Banking terms and conditions.

The changes include:

  • deleting the definition of ‘NetGuard Device’ in clause 2.1
  • amending the definition of ‘Two-Step Authentication’ in clause 2.1: “Two-Step Authentication means Mobile Authentication or any other second factor authentication security system offered by us, from time to time, that enables you to access Internet Banking in addition to entering an access number and Login Details;”
  • removing references to NetGuard Device in clauses 4.1 and 8.5
  • deleting the clause currently numbered 8.7(b), which relates to NetGuard Device security
  • renumbering clauses after clause 8.7(b).

Changes to our BNZ Direct Cash terms and conditions

Effective from 28 July 2025

We’re making changes to our BNZ Direct Cash terms and conditions.

The changes include:

  • updating the eligibility criteria for the use of BNZ Direct Cash
  • clarifying the requirements for using the BNZ Direct Cash service, and preparing BNZ Direct Cash bags
  • explaining what happens after BNZ Direct Cash bags are delivered
  • clarifying the applicable fees for using the BNZ Direct Cash service
  • other clarifying and formatting changes.

Changes to our Migrant account terms and conditions

Effective from 17 July 2025

We’re no longer issuing NetGuard cards to customers who register for Internet Banking.

To reflect this change, we’re removing clause 3.3 of the Migrant account terms and conditions: “3.3 NetGuard card: A NetGuard card is required to access certain functions within Internet Banking. If an Account Holder is arriving in New Zealand more than 21 days after the Account is opened, the Bank will post the Account Holder’s NetGuard card to their overseas address. If an Account Holder is expecting to arrive in New Zealand within 21 days of the Account being opened, they will receive their NetGuard card once they arrive in New Zealand.”

Changes to personal fees brochure

Effective from 2 July 2025

We’re making changes to our Personal account, service, and facility fees brochure.

The changes include:

  • adding the existing automatic payments, bill payments, electronic credit recovery, transaction research, international postage, paper statement, and replacement statement fees to the ‘Overdraft establishment fee and unarranged overdraft fee’ table on page 8
  • adding the existing automatic payments, bill payments, electronic credit recovery and transaction research fees into an additional table in the ‘Home loan service fees’ section on page 10. These home loan service fees apply to Mortgage One and Rapid Repay loans only.
