Interest-free days — BNZ Advantage Visa Classic and BNZ Advantage Visa Platinum credit cards
What is the interest-free days change?
Statements starting on or after 3 February 2026 will have 11 fewer interest-free days.
Instead of up to 55 days, you’ll have up to 44 days interest free on purchases if you pay off your balance in full each time.
What does the reduction of interest-free days mean for me?
Up to 44 days interest free, instead of up to 55 days, means you’ll need to pay your full balance 11 days earlier to receive your interest-free days.
Here’s an example of the changes:
Does this change my payment due date?
Yes. You will need to make your payments 11 days earlier – regardless of the type of payment (minimum or full balance).
For more information, have a look at understanding interest charges.
When do these changes take effect?
The number of interest-free days will reduce on your statement that begins on or after 3 February 2026.
How can I find my payment due date?
Your payment due date is on your credit card statements, or in the BNZ app (by selecting ‘details’ alongside your transaction list).
To view and download your statements, go to BNZ Internet Banking or log in to the BNZ app.
I have a direct debit set up. Will the payment date change automatically?
Yes. We will change the payment date of any direct debits you’ve set up to pay your minimum payment or full balance on your BNZ credit card.
This includes any direct debits coming from other New Zealand banks.
You’ll need to ensure you have enough funds available to make the payments.
How can I find out if I have a direct debit?
To find out if you have a direct debit check your credit card statement, Internet Banking, or the BNZ app.
Any automatic payments or bill payments you may have set up won’t be automatically adjusted.
BNZ Rewards – All BNZ Advantage Visa credit cards
What are the changes to BNZ Rewards?
From 3 February 2026, you will need more BNZ Points to redeem rewards. You can still use your BNZ Points the same way – the only difference is the number of BNZ Points needed.
These changes have been designed to ensure the continued availability of a wide range of redemption options.
You can find a table at the bottom of this section for more details of the changes.
You can continue to access special offers and discounts from a range of NZ retailers – which don’t require BNZ Points to participate – when you log in to BNZ Rewards.
Where can I see how many BNZ Points I have?
You can view and manage your BNZ Rewards and redeem BNZ Points by logging in to the BNZ app, or internet banking and selecting ‘BNZ Rewards’ from the main menu. From here you can also access special deals and offers from retailers.
You can find more information on how to access your BNZ Points, at Manage BNZ Rewards online - BNZ
What happens if I don’t redeem BNZ Points before 3 February 2026?
Your BNZ Points balance will not be affected by this change, and you’ll continue to be able to earn and redeem BNZ Points.
The difference will be you’ll need to redeem more BNZ Points for rewards than you did before 3 February 2026.
Redeeming BNZ Points for travel (flights, accommodation, rental cars)
On or after 3 February 2026, the number of BNZ Points needed to redeem for travel bookings — including flights, rental cars, and accommodation around the world, will increase.
Travel pricing may fluctuate depending on availability and foreign currency movements.
Travel insurance – BNZ Advantage Visa Platinum & BNZ Advantage Visa Business credit cards
What are the changes to Travel Insurance for flights leaving New Zealand from 3 February 2026?
If you are departing New Zealand on or after 3 February 2026, the differences to the travel insurance cover are:
- Travel insurance excesses for each and every accepted claim will increase from $200 to $300.
- Snow Sports (for example, skiing/snowboarding) will no longer be included, but can be purchased as an optional add-on before you travel.

What are the changes to Domestic Rental Vehicle Collision Damage and Theft Excess Cover from 3 February 2026?
If you are hiring a rental car on or after 3 February 2026, Domestic Rental Vehicle Collision Damage and Theft Excess Cover will no longer be provided for BNZ Advantage Visa Platinum cardholders.
If you are scheduled to pick up a domestic rental vehicle within New Zealand before 11:59pm on 2 February, you will be covered by the current (effective 28 February 2024) Travel Insurance Policy Wording.
What does this change mean for overseas rental vehicle direct excess cover?
Overseas rental vehicle hire excess is still included in your international insurance benefits for both BNZ Advantage Visa Platinum and BNZ Advantage Visa Business credit cards, subject to normal eligibility criteria.
