We’ve removed NetGuard cards for authentication

You’re no longer able to use your NetGuard card for authentication within Internet Banking. Instead, you need to use the BNZ app to authenticate.

You can set up the BNZ app and start using it straight away for secure two-step authentication.

Why we removed NetGuard cards

NetGuard cards have been used as a form of two-step authentication within Internet Banking since 2006. Over time two-step authentication practices and industry standards have evolved, as has the BNZ app. This means NetGuard cards are no longer needed to authenticate in Internet Banking.

The BNZ app is a safe and secure way to authenticate. Once you’ve set up the BNZ app, it lets you authenticate with a single tap, without the need for verification codes or text messages.

Moving forward, your NetGuard card will no longer work as a form of two-step authentication in Internet Banking. You’ll need the BNZ app to authenticate.

Using Internet Banking

You’re still able to use Internet Banking. However, you won’t be able to complete all banking tasks if you don’t use two-step authentication in the BNZ app.

You can complete some tasks such as viewing your accounts, transactions and statements, and making payments to existing payees, as these don’t need authentication. But you can’t do other tasks such as paying someone new or updating your contact details, without completing two-step authentication. You’ll need to use the BNZ app with its built in security measures to verify your identity for these tasks.

If you don’t have the BNZ app, you’ll need to authenticate either over the phone, or in a branch.
