Changing direct debits from your credit card

If you pay bills (e.g. Insurance, electricity, gym) by direct debit from your credit card and your credit card number changes, you’ll need to contact the company you’re paying. Some companies may accept instructions to update your credit card details over the phone, while others may need confirmation in writing.

In most cases, if only your credit card expiry date has changed, your direct debit shouldn’t be affected, but it will depend on how the company you are paying has set up your direct debit. If you’re not sure, you may want to contact them.
