Paying your credit card balance

The easiest way to pay your credit card is online, by making a transfer from your account in Internet Banking or the BNZ app. We have different methods of payment available as well.

Ways to pay your credit card online

Transferring between accounts

You can transfer money from any of your accounts in Internet Banking or in the BNZ app, to your credit card account (as you’d usually transfer money between transaction accounts).

Setting up an automatic payment

You can set up an automatic payment in Internet Banking or in the BNZ app to regularly pay a set amount off your credit card.

Fill in the payee reference fields as following.

  • Particulars: your name, as shown on your card or customer statement.
  • Code: the first 4 digits of your credit card number.
  • Reference: the last 12 digits of your credit card number.

Remember to check that your automatic payment covers at least the minimum payment each month so you don’t get charged a late payment fee.

If you don’t have Internet Banking, you can print out and fill in the Authority for automatic payments form PDF 127KB and take it into your nearest BNZ branch.

Paying by direct debit

You can set up a direct debit from any of your accounts to pay some of your credit card bill, the whole amount, or the minimum payment. The payment is taken automatically each month from the account you choose. A direct debit means you won’t miss any payments.

If you want to set up a direct debit, fill out the Direct debit for credit cards form PDF 87KB and send it back to the address on the form. Or you can call us on 0800 800 667 and we’ll send a form to you.

Paying from another bank

If you bank online or over the phone with another bank, you can set up a bill payment or automatic payment to pay your BNZ credit card.

Your other bank already has our payment details. When you set up a payment, choose ‘BNZ Credit Card’ from the existing payee list. Enter your credit card number as instructed, and check the number is correct. An incorrect number may delay the payment to your account.

When paying your BNZ credit card from another bank, allow up to two business days for the funds to be available.

Paying in person

You can pay your credit card at any BNZ branch, either at the counter or by using an ATM.

Our network of Smart ATMs can accept credit card payments by cash only as we no longer accept cheques. All you need is your credit card and our Smart ATMs will do the rest.
