Setting up and managing automatic payments in Internet Banking

Find out how to set up, edit, suspend, or stop automatic payments in Internet Banking, by following the instructions in our quick reference guide PDF 676KB, or by using the steps below.

You can also manage your automatic payments in the BNZ app.

Setting up an automatic payment

  1. From the main screen, drag the account you’d like to pay from onto Someone new. Or go to Menu, then Pay or transfer.
  2. Enter the account owner name and account number. You’ll also need to add a payee nickname. You can choose to add statement details and a payee identifier.

  3. Select Next. We’ll run a payee check to see if the details match information held for that account number.
  4. Enter the payment amount.
  5. Choose a date to select your first payment date. Select a frequency to choose how regularly you’d like your automatic payment to be paid.
  6. To confirm your payment select Pay and then Confirm. Or, if you’d like to make another payment, select Pay and make another.

Editing automatic payments

  1. Select the account that the automatic payment comes from.
  2. Scheduled automatic payments will show under the Upcoming heading (which is located just above your previous transactions).
  3. Select the payment that you want to edit.
  4. In the pop-up, edit the details you want to change, including your final payment date.
  5. Select Save, and then Confirm.

You can also find your upcoming automatic payments under the Search at the top right of the main screen, and above your list of recent transactions. If you can’t see your upcoming payments, click on Search. Then click on the payment you’d like to edit.

Suspending automatic payments

  1. S elect the account that the automatic payment comes from.
  2. Scheduled automatic payments will show under the Upcoming heading (which is located just above your previous transactions).
  3. Select the payment that you want to suspend.
  4. Under the Suspend heading, select from the dropdown menu how many payments you want to suspend the automatic payment for.
  5. Select Save, and then Confirm.

Stopping automatic payments

To permanently stop all occurrences of an automatic payment:

  1. Select the account that the automatic payment comes from.
  2. Scheduled automatic payments will show under the Upcoming heading (which is located just above your previous transactions).
  3. Select the payment that you want to delete.
  4. In the pop-up, select Delete, and then Confirm.
